About

Rob Whitehurst is a writer, musician, film sound recordist, broadcaster, and public speaker.

Rob was born in Tampa, Florida in late 1951, a 7th generation Floridian whose ancestral family immigrated from England to Virginia in 1630. Growing up in the 1950s, Rob had already received a ukulele and a miniature drum set by the time he was five years old. This would open the door to his long love of studying and performing music.

In elementary school, Rob took up saxophone and drums. In junior and senior high school, he performed in the orchestras and marching bands, and in 1968, put together his first rock band from neighbor friends. Rob continued his musical studies in college as well as discovering radio and television broadcasting, which he would eventually major in.

After graduating, and after a brief stint as a camp counselor-swim instructor for the YMCA, Rob was offered his first job in radio broadcasting with the prestigious Keswick Christian organization. From there he moved to WSST-AM where he worked as production manager, news director, and host of one of the first Jesus Music radio programs "Changes". A "chance" meeting with broadcaster Kevin McKenzie led to a job offer from WINQ-AM, a 50,000 watt Christian station that became the ground-zero station for today's Christian Hit Music format. There, he hosted the trend-setting "Love Tree" radio program which featured the progressive Christian rock artists of the day.

But Rob's heart was in street ministry. He had been a drug-addicted rock musician when a friend reached out to him with the love of Jesus. That simple act saved his life and now he wanted to do the same with the musical talent he had been gifted with. In 1978, Rob and his wife Georgia, a classically trained pianist and vocalist, discovered a church which was open to reaching the world with the Gospel any way it could, especially through music. Calvary Temple of Temple Terrace became one of the originators of the modern worship style so popular today and once again, Rob was there at it's creation. It was at Calvary that he met Janny Grein, Mike Deasy, and so many other of the top Christian music performers of the day and tour the world as part of their ministries, literally touching millions of lives with the Gospel message. But there was more to come.

Because of Rob's extensive background in sound recording, a simple phone call one night thrust him into the world of film and television production, where he would spend nearly 29 years working on some of the biggest shows and movies of the day. It's that legacy this website is dedicated to.
